Welcome to the Nigerian Student Union

We're excited to announce the launch of our newly formed union at Southeastern Louisiana University! Join us in building a vibrant community that celebrates Nigerian culture, fosters unity, and creates lasting connections on the SELU campus in Hammond, Louisiana.

Our Formation & Mission

The Nigerian Student Union (NSU) was officially established and recognized as a student organization at Southeastern Louisiana University in October 2024. Founded by Oreoluwa Onafowokan, NSU was created with a clear vision: to build a vibrant and supportive community for Nigerian students on campus.

Our mission is simple yet powerful - we serve as a home away from home for Nigerian students, offering a welcoming space where they can connect, celebrate, and preserve their rich cultural heritage while navigating college life. Through cultural events, traditional food, music, and shared experiences, NSU is committed to spreading awareness and appreciation of Nigerian culture across campus and beyond.

At its heart, NSU exists to foster unity, pride, and belonging among Nigerian students—and to warmly welcome anyone interested in learning about and experiencing Nigerian culture. We believe that by sharing our traditions and values, we can create meaningful connections that enrich the entire SELU community.
